Dr. Sondermayer has a special interest in women’s health and is actively working toward becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to further support new mothers and families in the postpartum period. She is deeply passionate about rural medicine and has always been drawn to the unique dynamics of small towns, where healthcare is not just about treating conditions but building meaningful, long-term relationships with her patients and community.
Personal History
Samantha Sondermayer was born and raised in the Midwest with her parents and older brother. While growing up, she loved spending time with her dad in the garage, camping with her friends in Grand Marais, snowmobiling, dirt biking, and rollerblading. Through childhood and high school, she enjoyed playing soccer and was a flute player in the school band.

Samatha began college at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. She looked around the room in her first physics class of 350 students … too big! She transferred to the smaller Concordia University in the Twin Cities. Once there, she found her niche in the biology research cohort. For four years, she focused on growing neurons on biodegradable scaffolds. She had the opportunity to present this innovative project at the American Chemical Society Conference.

When she wasn’t studying or running Western Blots until midnight, Samantha was the stable manager on a horse farm. She was so engrossed and enamored in caring for 40 dressage horses, that she considered not pursuing a career as a physician. Her other favorite jobs were working at a power sports dealership and as an assistant at an ophthalmology retina specialty clinic.

Once she got settled in Lebanon, Oregon for medical school, Samantha joined a gym to blow off some steam. There, she met Luke, a native of Lebanon, Oregon. Drawn together by a shared love for fitness, animals, and the outdoors, they fell in love and tied the knot in 2022. On July 23, 2022, they went from two to three when their son Sawyer was born. In September 2025, the Sondermayers will add one more to the family.

In Lebanon, Luke and Samantha shared a small homestead filled with their duck (Ducky), a flock of chickens (including their favorite tiny rooster, McGregor, and the massive hen, Chicky), a dog (Willow), and a cat (Ninja). While most students were studying with their classmates in the library, Samantha was found buried in the book with her animals.

As ofen as possible, Samantha, Luke, and Sawyer take to the outdoors any which way possible.
