How BOTOX Works
BOTOX® (onabotulism toxin A) is made from Clostridium Botulinum. In nature, this bacteria causes muscle paralysis. When it is prepared in controlled laboratory conditions and in small amounts, it can be used to relax facial muscles to smooth out or eliminate wrinkles.When you want to contract a muscle, the brain sends an electrical signal which is converted to a chemical release. The chemical is a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine
BOTOX® blocks this release. Without acetylcholine, the muscle never receives the message to contract. So it doesn’t, because it can’t. It’s resting. BOTOX greatly reduces or eliminates the contracture of muscles that contribute to wrinkles. Some people refer to BOTOX treatment as temporarily “paralyzing” facial muscles. It is not permanent. It will wear off over several months. Repeat treatments are required to maintain the benefits of BOTOX.
